* Maneater (NEW)
{BESTIARY LOG: MANEATER}
COMMON NAMES:
Maneater, Cave Dweller, Grub, "The Baby", "Baby"
CLASSIFICATION:
Periplaneta Clamorus
BRIAR'S DANGER LEVEL:
2% (Juvenile), 98% (Adult)
OVERVIEW:
The Maneater is a being seperated into two forms, it's junenile stage and it's adult stage. I will be writing as if speaking about two different entities in this file. In short, the procedure for dealing with a Maneater is simple. Care for it's juvenile stage, and get the fuck out if it ever pupates into adulthood. Do engage if juvenile, but do not attack. If matured, do not engage at all.PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
A Maneater in its juvenile stage is a small grublike creature with a tri-segmented body, mandibles, and large, round, red eyes. It is about the size of an infant human and will crawl or toddle around like one, usually on all sixes. It has six limbs, each with two fingers/claws. Four "arms" are connected to the torso, and two digitigrade hind legs are on the bottom segment.
A Maneater in its adult form takes on a much less innocent appearance, now elongated and large, standing about as tall if not taller than your average human while still on all sixes. It appears much less grublike and much more spiderlike, no longer with a segmented body but rather with long spindly limbs and sharp, muscley features.BEHAVIOR:
A Maneater in its grubhood stage will toddle around until it finds something or someone to observe. They seem to grow lonely quite easily, seeking out the company of other people or creatures—seeming to favor those most human-like. They fear most anything unfamiliar or even remotely startling, such as bodily harm to a caretaker, a dead body, or even simply being too lonely or a loud, sudden noise. These events, when causing a startle, will cause the Maneater to cry—a terrible, terrible sign of things to come if not soothed as soon as possible. Once soothed, previous behaviors will resume as normal. If left to cry for a long period before being soothed, it may vomit an acidic, foamy substance upon being consoled. This substance is a sign that it is very close to maturing, and you should pay very close attention to not allow this to happen. If left to cry for too long without being soothed, it will eventually pupate into its adult form—very suddenly, within moments.
May the whims of life have mercy on you should you be unlucky enough to bear witness.ADDENDUM: It ate my Rubik's cube. Apparently, while observing static objects, they can become curious enough to eat them... Whether or not it's actually edible. This causes their torso to bulge a bit with the additional mass.
Do not leave them alone with your scrap.
ADDENDUM 2: They are in fact capable of running on their hind legs and are incredibly fast when doing so. Be sure to catch them ASAP when this occurs, as they are most often crying when they do this.
ADDENDUM 3: Do not take them outside. They will cry. They have sensitive skin. Repeat: Do. Not. Take. Outside.
ADDENDUM 4: DO NOT HIT THE FUCKING BABY. Not only will this accomplish nothing other than making it cry and making it transform faster, you are a terrible, terrible thing for even thinking of this "solution."Once in their adult form, they will take on completely new behaviors—regardless of how they were treated in their grubhood. Once an adult, they will attack indiscriminately, lunging at anything within range with a shrill shriek. They are capable of killing humans with a single, swift bite—a dangerous predator to be sure. If they are not immediately killing, they will hide and stalk anything within their "nesting area," usually a cave system. They will attempt to mimic their grub stage's human-like cries to try and lure their emotional prey closer for a clean kill. You can occasionally hear a low tone within these cries.
Once a Maneater transforms, it is in your best interest to leave, especially if it is outside. They are stealthy, manipulative, and much, much faster than you. If and when it chooses to attack you, you will not survive.ADDENDUM: It is possible to kill. Just very difficult and you likely won't survive the attempt. If you want to take up the deadly challenge... Good luck.
ADDENDUM 2: When I say "anything," I mean anything human or at least human-shaped. Humans seem to be their preferred prey.EXTRA DETAIL:
It is actually possible and rather likely to not be liked by the child stage of this creature. If you are disliked, they will let you know by squirming away or even crying when you try to hold them.
Heartbreaking, I know.
I miss you so much, Jinx. I hope you have plenty of humans to eat.PERSONAL STORIES AND OBSERVATIONS:
Jinx liked to eat bugs... Potentially a part of their juvenile diet?
I have seen one eat a dead body while still juvenile... This is strange because normally the sight of death would make them cry. Still thinking over this one.
One of the many, many things that are capable of making them cry is simply falling over while sitting. Which they do a lot.THEORIES:
The reason for their immediate aggression upon their pupation could be to find some immediate restoration of their energy. I'd imagine it'd take a good bit of energy to grow so suddenly. Especially considering their likely carnivorous or at least omnivorous diet, it would be hard to get a lot of good food when they're so small... Poor things are probably starving.
